The Department of Administrative Services called for expressions of interest yesterday for the position of auctioneer for the disposal of government fleet vehicles.

The previous auctioneer, Sale-O Pty Ltd, trading as Australian Capital Auctions, went into liquidation owing more than $1 million, most of it to the Federal Government and some to the ACT Government.

The department expects to call for expressions of interest for the disposal of miscellaneous items in the next few weeks.

Advertisements yesterday were for pre-qualification of interested auctioneers. Qualifying auctioneers would then be able to tender.

The advertisements, in The Canberra Times and elsewhere, said the services sought included suitable premises for under cover selling and pre-selling viewing of vehicles close to Dairy Road, Fyshwick.

Those interested should phone 2954623 or contact Purchasing Australia, 51 Wentworth Avenue, Kingston. Applications close on September 9.

One dealer in second-hand government items called last week for a requirement that the auctioneer not be a dealer in items because the two roles were in conflict: the auctioneer to obtain the highest price and a dealer to obtain lower prices.

Two of the principals of Australian Capital Auctioneers have applied for individual ACT auctioneer’s licences. Their applications will be heard next week.
