It seems plausible though it is attributing a lot of political power to fundamentalism. Here's another theory which I read somewhere: Israel is holding the US to ransom with its atomic bomb. If the US didn't support Israel with conventional arms, the Israelis would be reliant upon the bomb. Paradoxically, by giving Israel arms, the US lowers the tension - or at least keeps the lid on unlimited escalation. Also plausible, no? Okay. It seems plausible though it is attributing a lot of political power to fundamentalism.
