<description>There are no guarantees against failed or corrupt politicians. Fixed four terms, however imperfect, provide better opportunity for the suffering public, not for politicians blowing in the wind of political opportunity.

The best-resourced lobby groups, via the advertising dollar or compliant media, will always have the edge in swaying voters’ minds. A well-educated voting public with an ongoing interest in beneath the surface political affairs is the best defence for politicians of statesmanship and for those who elect them.

We are currently in a drought in those areas. Thanks for watering the turf.
